Getting Things Done: Work and personal life

David Allen recommends keeping work and personal life in the same system. I've avoided doing this. I keep my personal life in my Treo, and my work in a textfile on the work computer. (I spend all my time at work sat at my desk, so I don't need to worry about portability there.) I keep them separate because it's too easy for your job to take over your life. That happened to some extent in my last job and I'm determined not to let it happen again.

The one bit of crossover that I allow at the moment is a next actions context "@work" on my Treo. That contains the personal tasks that I need to do while I'm in the office. For example, it currently contains an entry to copy some music on my computer at work onto my iRiver.
