Tabs, tabs, tabs, tabs

My god, this tabbed browsing is a touchy subject. (Late again. Only just saw it in my referrers.) I'll say a few things and try not to get drawn in by the vague insults.
Ok, maybe "considered harmful" is overstating the case somewhat. I'm not going to argue that point. But I'm not "intent on ignoring whatever usefulness anyone could ever derive from tabbed browsing". I'm curious about it. At the moment I believe that the complexity-to-usefulness ratio makes tabbed browsing a (mildly) bad thing, but if someone wants to prove me wrong then, please, prove me wrong.
But the most interesting thing in Chris Nelson's blog entry, and something which I sincerely thank him for, is that he's hacked what I considered to be a mechanism for making a reply to a comment into a URL for that comment. I hadn't realised that comments needed their own URLs, but now I think that they do... which buggers up the entire design of the blogging tool I've been slowly working on these last two months. Oh well.
