As a child I saw lots of diagrams showing the spectrum of electromagnetic frequencies with radio waves at one end and going through the visible light spectrum to x-rays at the other end. However, I never really understood what they meant. Last night, though, it dawned on me that light is made of the same stuff as radio waves, and that our eyes are detecting the same stuff as the antennas on our radios.
All this was a result of me and my father trying to work out which frequencies were being observed in radio-astronomy. We didn't succeed.
