Debunking studies of internet user loneliness

Following the release last week of a study claiming that internet users were lonelier than non-internet users, Scott Rosenberg has quite nicely demolished its findings. The article ends with an analysis of why newspapers are so happy to print such stories. Though I agree with Rosenberg, I can't help but notice that his arguments also explain why Salon would have an interest in refuting them.
